Tips on tools to use to enhance your internal public relations campaign

In previous posts we have discussed the importance of having a strategic internal public relations campaign.  It is important to have at least 50% of your public relations focus be on your internal stakeholders.  The stakeholders include employees, suppliers, retailers and others depending on the type of business you have.

It is critical to have a structured plan for public relations within your company.  Your employees need to feel valued and to achieve that goal you need to make sure they feel heard and that the company communicates about plans and goals with your employees.

There are many tech tools as well as strategies to enhance your internal public relations with your employees and stakeholders.  Below are some ideas to increase the reach of your internal public relations campaign.


  • Utilize your managers as your main point person for communication with the employees they oversee. They work with their employees everyday and are in a prime position to enhance communication.  They should make employees feel comfortable to approach them if they have an idea or concern.

    The management should see their role as the liaison between the companies vision and getting that vision to the employees they work with as well as getting feedback from their employees to share with the company.

  • Utilize multimedia to get messaging out to your employees. When there is a big role out for a new project or change you want to make sure employees understand everything it is about and feel they can share feedback. Create catchy motivational videos with your employees featured to share with them about the project.  Send it to their email and post on a company Facebook group.  Pick one social media platform to share information with employees.  Encourage them to sign up and take part in your social media page.  Have webcasts to make the announcement or utilize live streaming.  Using this type of strategic you can allow employees to ask questions right away and review them while streaming.  This can then alleviate any fears from lack of understanding about an upcoming change or topic. In addition to creating videos about upcoming projects you can create videos about the growth and goals of the company that have been met by their hard work.

    These can be very motivational and add to the employees feelings of being connected to the company.


  • Create a blog to share information with your employees about events, achievements and recognitions. Highlight your employee of the month on your blog.  Share upcoming project dates and charity events that the company is participating.  Post contests for your employees to help meet goals.  Encourage them to comment to help keep them engaged. Post pictures of company presentations, events and outings.  Link to press from outside the company that highlights positive aspects of your companies work.  Highlight your mission and overall goal of your company.  Encourage an employee to write a post a month from each department highlighting their work.  This will give a fresh perspective and also help contribute to the department feeling pride about their work and feel recognized and valued.
  • Utilize Facebook events to promote upcoming company events. Many people utilize the events and it is a way to seamlessly integrate upcoming dates for important company trainings and events.  Link the events into your blog so there is one primary place for employees to go.

These are just a few of the many ways you can enhance your overall internal public relations with your employees and other stakeholders.  There are many more ways you can enhance the communication within your company.

I decided to start a blog about the topic of maintaining proper public relations within a company – for PR agencies and business owners because I believe there are parts of public relations that get lost sometimes in the focus on big press releases and global goals. There are lots of things to look at that can be easily overlooked.
